Oh, this was a wonderful read.

And that he's named Arya. And has an albeit fast forwarded Arya experience.

If I remember well in Game of Thrones, she has to leave the North suddenly, heads south after the trauma of her dad being killed.

She returns, with a story to tell but also having gained some essential life skills.

She has learnt to live, and fight, and soar with her own wings.

Loved everything in here; complete with the Gale and the strangest Sea.

Thank you, Perry.

My pleasure, Susanna.

Yes, Arya is named after Arya from GOT. He is male and yet the name fits him to a T. Like his namesake, Arya is brave, beautiful, intelligent and loyal.

Oh my goodness!! This is my worst nightmare. The first cockatiel that we got 19 years ago was an escapee from someone else. We never found the old owner. We were then Burbanks family. I have since rescued more than a few birds and fostered a couple. So glad Arya found his way home.

(cockatoo, macaw and cockatiel)

Yes, and now that she has had that adventure, Arya has no plans for another one. She sticks to me like glue. Aren't birds wonderful?

As a person who loves to fly and who is a tad bit jealous of anything that flies naturally, you had me on the edge of my seat thinking you might have lost your pet Arya. Thanks for minimizing the stress by putting the photo and caption early on. I'm sorry I'd done the opposite in my most recent post. My glorified powered hang-glider goes by the name "Aerie" to honor an eagle that John Denver got to know.

I would love to have a pet bird that could get spoiled, bond, fly and return but that's understandably a risky venture. Your song and Emily Dickenson poem were nice finishing touches. Thanks for the nice read.

Arya was named by my oldest son after Arya of Game of Thrones,; yes, the character is female and Arya the cockatiel is male. Yet the name fits.

That your powered hang-glider is named Aaerie is fascinating, named after an eagle, the king of birds.

I, too, am envious of Arya, who opens and extends his wings, does a quick jump and he is airborne. All done in quick succession. Birds are amazing.

Interesting to see where the name came from - I'm sure Arya isn't worried about the gender mismatch. Our neighbor in upstate New York had a cockatiel for years along with a dog and the two of them worked out an amicable relationship.

Well that was a bit of a scary adventure - glad it had a happy ending. Great choice of poem, and good link to an audio of it.

Incredible and harrowing! The whole family, Arya especially, must have felt so bonded in the reunion. Also, thank you for sharing this story with us and including the beautiful poem from Emily Dickinson. She loved birds and all animals, her own dog, Carlo, was a source of much comfort and inspiration. A Newfoundland. Take good care and thanks for this adventure.

Thank you; we were so overjoyed that we were united, and rather quickly. That Dickinson loved all animals is not surprising; her poetry reflects it.

I can imagine the stress while Arya was exploring a moment of 'rewilding' not knowing what he'd let himself in for.
